Why I Love Autumn

Technically, Autumn isn't officially here until September 23rd. However, the new season fashion is in stores, the trees are starting to change colour, and I'm sipping on my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the year as I write this post. As far as I'm concerned, Autumn has arrived way before it says on the calendar. Many people love this season for multiple reasons. That's exactly what I'm talking about in this post: why I love Autumn. We're covering all aspects here, from food to nature, to what we can learn from this short but beautiful season...

The Colours

Beautiful, warm oranges, browns, reds and yellows fill the landscape during Autumn. In fact, it is often referred to as 'the golden season' thanks to all the warm tones around. The view from my window at this time of year is particularly stunning. I'm grateful to live in the countryside where I can see fields of colour, but pictures of cities like London and New York show that Autumn looks beautiful in many places. The colours of nature influence our consumerism too as stores start selling jumpers, trousers, and even homeware, etc to match the colours of the leaves.

Candles

How can I be a blogger and not mention candles in an autumnal blog post? This is the season where spicy, warm scents become more popular. I love them, but I understand if you find them too intense, like the rest of my family do! However, the colder and darker evenings mean that you can burn more candles of your own choice. These two from Yankee Candle - Warm Cashmere and Autumn Pearl - are the perfect balance between warm and fresh, yet they still have a lovely Autumnal scent.

Food and Drink

The food we eat changes with every season. My family all love hearty meals such as casseroles and roast dinners. Meals like this are perfect for cosy autumn evenings. We also love warm desserts and sweet treats, such as brownies, flapjacks and apple pie. Of course, Autumn sees the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte as well, which always makes me so happy.

Cosy Evenings

I have no shame in admitting that I'm an introvert, and Autumn gives me the perfect reasons to stay in and enjoy evenings at home. From movie nights (maybe even Halloween themed), to reading a book whilst it's raining outside, or catching up on Saturday night TV; Autumn has such a cosy, homely vibe to it that I really love.

I'm an Autumn Baby

I was born on October 28th, so just 3 days before Halloween, and in the first week of Scorpio Season. Yep, I'm an autumn baby. Autumn is also known as redhead season because the changing leaves represent the different shades of red hair, and the colours of autumnal clothes (such as green and burgundy) complement red hair so much. With all that being said, I can proudly say that I'm an Autumn baby, thanks to my birthday and my natural appearance.

Life Lessons from Autumn

Think of the events that take place in Autumn - Halloween, Bonfire Night, etc. This is also the time where the evenings get darker, the weather gets colder, animals (and humans haha) go into hibernation, and the trees lose their leaves. There are also the astrological seasons of Libra Season, the sign of balance, harmony and partnership; Scorpio Season, the sign of death, mystery and transformation; and Sagittarius Season, the sign of optimism and adventure. Overall, Autumn teaches us how important it is to let things go and embrace change. It teaches us to rest and enjoy time with ourselves and loved ones. It reminds us that life is never perfect, and that we need balance, darkness and light. We can acknowledge darker parts of ourselves as well as nature, and see all the beautiful colours in life as well.

Fashion

Last but not least, we've got to include Autumn fashion. From jumpers to boots to coats, Autumn dressing can be so fun. Whether you're channelling 90s/Clueless vibes with checkered skirts, complementing the shades of nature with neutral and warm toned jumpers, or embracing the dark nights and Halloween vibes with monochrome, velvet or leather...there are so many ways to dress for this season.

What are your favourite things about Autumn? Are you an autumn baby as well?
