Good Habits I Want To Keep Up With

I can be pretty lazy when it comes to sticking to good routines. I'll be consistent for about a week, and then one slip will happen, or I just forget, or make excuses. It's a viscous cycle, and not one that makes me feel good about myself. However, I'm determined to turn these negatives into positive things. By sharing the good habits I want to keep up with on my blog, and writing them into existence, it's likely that i'll commit to them with a lot more determination. I will also list some benefits of these habits so that I see the positives in them. A lot of these habits are to do with health, sleep, money and genuinely taking care of myself. This post is about committing to good routines by focusing on the positive outcomes...

1. Read More

One of my goals for this year was to read more books, ideally once a month. But to be honest, I haven't stuck to that very well. I was really enjoying it for the first few months, but this summer I fell out of the habit so quickly, and now that Love Island is on in the evenings, I don't read before I go to bed.

But really, I can read at any time of the day - on the way to work, during my lunch break, whilst waiting for train, in the afternoon - not just a night. Reading is so wonderful, it teaches people, inspires them, and helps them escape their life for a little while. It widens your vocabulary, and helps you explore different cultures. And it makes you feel more relaxed. With all those fantastic benefits, I seriously need to get back into the habit of reading again, if you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments. I'm open to reading any genre.

2. Have a Regular Sleeping Pattern

This is a never-ending cycle for me. I currently work in retail and my hours mean that I start in the afternoon and finish in the evening. I end up staying up so late, just watching stuff on Youtube or Netflix. I've turned into such a night owl, but I seriously need to establish a proper sleeping pattern. I might be getting a new job soon, so I need to stop having such late nights!

The benefits of early nights are pretty obvious. I will have more time and energy during the day. I will have a better daily routine. I will save lay-ins for weekends instead of weekdays. And lastly, a solid 8 hours of sleep does wonders for your health. So with all that good stuff being said, there's no more excuses for my unnecessary late nights! I will commit to an evening routine that helps me feel more sleepy, and gets me to bed earlier.

3. Cut Back on Spending Money on Food

This is one that could be so easily fixed. I'm one of those people who spends too much money on food when I'm out and about. I enjoy coffee and food, but I don't need to go and spend money multiple times a week. I want to treat myself once or twice a week, without it falling into a daily habit.

If I look on the bright side, the little bits of money that I spend here and there could be put towards better things. I would learn to control and treat myself to more than just food and coffee. I could learn to make my own food and take a drink with me when I go to work. It'll be healthier for my body as well as my bank account.

4. Speaking Louder

I have a habit of talking quietly and/or talking under my breath. I've always been quite a shy person, but I thought I had improved when speaking to others, especially because I've worked in retail for two years. I never like to shout, but there's a difference between speaking softly and nobody being able to hear you.

Speaking clearly is one of the best ways to feel confident. I will definitely be more aware of when I'm talking to quietly. If I keep trying, I'm sure it will become second nature.

5. A Better Skincare Routine

I always remove my make up before I go to bed. However, I need to step up and commit to more than just miscellar water and moisturiser. My skin has had it's ups and downs this year, and a consistent skincare routine that really caters to my skin type is needed.

There are quite a few benefits from a good skincare routine. The first being that it makes you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin. Your skin feels clean and less prone to spots. Your make up goes on smoother, and you feel better about having no make up days. With these positive outcomes in mind, there's no excuse for being lazy with my skincare routine.

By thinking of a positive outcome for something, it might motivate you to take action and get things done. This can apply to a big project, or parts of your everyday life. For me, this post was about noticing where I may have slipped, and listing the benefits in order to pick these habits up again.

New Look Summer Wishlist

New Look has got to be my favourite high street store for this summer. Everything is so bright, colourful...and affordable! Everytime I go in there to have a browse, I am so impressed. They are definitely paying attention to this season's trends (such as stripes), as well as summer staples such as dresses and holiday clothes. I knew that I'd have to create a wishlist for the blog soon! So now that we're heading right into summer, here is a New Look wishlist for some seasonal style inspiration...

First up in this wishlist is this amazing rainbow stripe jumpsuit. Despite the crazy colours, it would be easy to wear with heels, trainers or even sandals. It's just so colourful and the wrap style is really flattering. The fact that the trousers are culottes makes them nice and light for hot weather. You could wear this playsuit for any summer event and it would look so eye-catching, but so effortless.
Similar to the jumpsuit, I also love these stripy culottes. Clearly, stripes are a huge trend this year! Pairing these with a white slogan t-shirt would look awesome. They would be a great alternative to jeans, as they are nice and flowy and will keep you cool. Also, the colours are amazing!

Nomade by Chloé - My New Summer Fragrance

This year I bought my first designer fragrance. This may not seem like a big deal to some people, but to me it was a real treat. I have received some as birthday or Christmas gifts over the years, but this is the first one I have bought myself. So as I'm close the end of my gap year, and I was going on holiday to France, I treated myself to Nomade by Chloé two weeks ago. This is the newest fragrance from the French fashion house. Although I don't have the budget for designer clothes, shoes or bags, fragrance is the perfect way to have a little bit of luxury as I love Chloé's delicate and feminine designs. The slogan for the Nomade campaign is 'Encounter The World' and it's inspired by bold women who wish to explore the world, as it says in the description of the fragrance...
